Dr. Chafouleas is currently an Associate Professor in the Neag School of Education. Dr. Chafouleas received her Ph.D. in School Psychology from Syracuse University and is a licensed psychologist in Connecticut . She has taught courses in behavior assessment and intervention, academic and intellectual assessment, ethics, and the roles and functions of school psychologists. Dr. Chafouleas is currently serving as an Associate Editor for School Psychology Review and as guest editor and board member for Psychology in the Schools . Dr. Chafouleas' primary areas of research interest involve the prevention of reading difficulties, and the application of evidenced-based strategies to the classroom. She has authored or co-authored over 40 articles, book chapters, and books. Prior to becoming a university trainer, Dr. Chafouleas worked as a school psychologist and school administrator in a variety of settings dealing with children with behavior disorders.

Dr. Dipak K. Dey , is a Professor and Head of the Department of Statistics at the University of Connecticut . He received his B.Stat. (Honors) from the Indian Statistical Institute and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Statistics from Purdue University . He is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and recipient of the 2004 Research Excellence Award from the American Association of the University Professor, University of Connecticut chapter. He has published three books/edited volumes on Statistical Models and published over 140 refereed journal articles and book chapters in various statistical and interdisciplinary journals on statistical methodology and applications involving categorical, longitudinal, spatio-temporal and survival data arise in Psychometry and Biometry. He has also developed methodological approaches for the analysis of data arises in population and evolutionary genetics. He has been a visiting professor at Macquire University, Sydney, Australia, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, India and the National Institutes of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Alvin F. Larson is the Research and Evaluation Specialist for Meriden Public Schools (1996 to present). He also was a Researcher for Hartford Public Schools (1985-1996). In these urban environments, his interests include the development of periodic mathematics and reading comprehension assessments designed to improve student achievement by identifying and reporting each student's cognitive errors to teachers that is both timely and meaningful. A certified administrator, Dr. Larson is also the L.E.A. representative for Connecticut for the NCES National Forum on Education Statistics and an active member of the NESAC standing committee. Dr. Xing Liu is an assistant professor of educational research and assessment in the department of education at the Eastern Connecticut State University . Dr. Liu received his Ph.D. in Measurement, Evaluation and Assessment in the field of Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut . His research interests focus on research methodology, multilevel (hierarchical) modeling, longitudinal data analysis, categorical data analysis, structural equation modeling, design of evaluation instruments, applied psychometrics, classroom assessment and grading practices, and cross-cultural educational comparisons. Xing has extensive experience in conducting data analyses. He is proficient in using all three general purpose statistics packages SPSS, SAS, and STATA. Previously, he was a graduate assistant conducting data analyses for the Teachers for a New Era Project.

Joseph W. Madaus, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut . His research and publication interests include documentation of learning disabilities, transition, assessment and postschool outcomes of adults with LD. During the 2003-2004 academic year, Dr. Madaus was a Distinguished Research Fellow in the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research Mary Switzer Fellowship program. He served as the director of the Learning Resource Center at Mitchell College in New London , Connecticut , and as the Director of the University Program for College Students with Learning Disabilities at the University of Connecticut . He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability, Learning Disabilities: A Multidisciplinary Journal, and Career Development for Exceptional Individuals. Dr. Madaus is a member of the State of Connecticut Interagency Transition Task Force , the Division of Career Development and Transition Research Committee, and the Core Knowledge Board of the Learning Disabilities Special Collection, National Institute for Literacy and Learning Disabilities. Dr. Betsy McCoach is an assistant professor in the Measurement, Evaluation and Assessment program, where she teaches coursework in educational statistics, measurement, and research design. Betsy has extensive experience in hierarchical linear modeling, and has used multilevel modeling techniques to analyze large national datasets, such as the ECLS-K. For the past three summers, Betsy has co-taught a weeklong workshop (with Ann O'Connell) on hierarchical linear modeling as part of DATIC at the University of Connecticut . This course is attended by researchers, professors, and graduate students who wish to learn to use multilevel techniques in their own research. Betsy is also co-editing a book on multilevel modeling (with Ann O'Connell), and she is the current chair of the Hierarchical Linear Modeling Special Interest Group of AERA. In addition, Betsy has considerable experience in the areas of instrument design, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. Betsy is currently serving as the quantitative methodologist for two federal grants and an external evaluator for a third federal grant.

Dr. Jaci L. VanHeest is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, NEAG School of Education, at the University of Connecticut . She received her B.A. in physical education from Hope College . Her graduate work in exercise physiology (masters) and exercise endocrinology (doctoral) was completed at Michigan State University . She has published one book and twenty-five refereed journal articles and book chapters in the field of endocrinology, body weight regulation and performance in women and children. Dr. VanHeest has presented over 50 papers at national and international professional conferences. She has been awarded approximately one million dollars in federal, state and private grants. She currently holds a joint appointment in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut and an Associate Faculty position in the Graduate Faculty at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Olson is an assistant professor of science education. His interests engage the teaching and learning of science and in particular, how teachers learn how to teach science. Dr. Olson is a recipient of the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Young Scholar Fellowship and is working to develop new tools for understanding the relationships between subject matter knowledge and teaching.

Rosalyn Reese is currently enrolled in the Neag School of Education IB/M Program. She will receive her B.S. degree in Secondary Mathematics in May, 2007. Her goal is to become a high school mathematics teacher in an ethnically diverse school setting. Rosalyn is currently a member of a group developed by students in the Neag School of Education called DEED, which stands for Determined Educators Emphasizing Diversity. As a member of this group, she plans to learn more about Multicultural Education and develop skills to help her become a teacher that is culturally responsive to her students. Darcy Robinson is currently pursuing a Master's of Arts in Education degree as part of the teacher preparation program at the University of Connecticut . She received a Bachelors of Science in both Elementary Education and Human Development Family Studies. She is currently conducting her Master's Inquiry Project researching the effects of various reading instruction methods on student attitudes towards reading in elementary school. Yuhang Rong, the new assistant dean, joins us from the Connecticut Department of Higher Education where he served as the associate director for academic affairs. He had also spent several years as a project director at the state's education department where he worked on issues related to minority teacher recruitment and teacher quality, and was the coordinator for international programs at Eastern Connecticut State University . During the 2005-2006 academic year, he served as a Ford Foundation supported policy associate to the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education.  In addition to his experience as author and administrator of major federal grants, he serves as a federal grant technical reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education.
As assistant dean, Rong is the school's liaison to both the state education department and the higher education department. He is responsible for all teacher certification issues and accreditation processes. He is also heading up the Neag School 's Diversity Advisory Board, which is constructing a plan to bring diversity to the student body and the teacher education curriculum.

Jason M. Stephens is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut , where he teaches classes on cognition, motivation, instruction, and research methods.   Prior to joining the faculty at UConn in 2004, Dr. Stephens was a research assistant at The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for six years, where worked on the Political Engagement Project and the Project on Higher Education and the Development of Moral and Civic Responsibility.  In addition to the role and impact of higher education on undergraduates' moral, civic and political development, his research interests include academic motivation, achievement and dishonesty among secondary and postsecondary students.  He is co-author of Educating citizens: Preparing America 's undergraduates for lives of moral and civic responsibility (2003) and several related articles.  Dr. Stephens is a graduate of the University of Vermont (1991), holds an M.Ed degree from Vanderbilt University (1994), and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Stanford University (2004).

Dr. Truxaw is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut. Prior to earning her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Truxaw taught mathematics for over 20 years in public schools in Los Angeles, New York, and Connecticut. Her research focuses on discourse in mathematics classes, teacher education, and technology to enhance mathematics instruction. Her research has been presented and published at regional, national, and international forums.

Dr. Mary E. Yakimowski is the Director of Assessment and Association Professor-in-Residence for the University of Connecticut 's Neag's School of Education . She has a joint position with the Educational Psychology and Educational Leadership Departments and is proud to work with the Teachers for New Era. She has her doctorate in Educational Psychology and has certifications in school psychology, intermediate administration, and school superintendent. Previously she worked for the Council of Chief State School Officers in Washington , DC as Director of Assessments and for Baltimore City School District 's Division of Research, Evaluation, Assessment, and Accountability as Chief of Educational Accountability. She is i mmediate p ast vice p resident of the American Educational Research Association; past president of the National Association of Test Directors, Directors of Research and Evaluation, and Connecticut Testing Network; a member of various Boards and Committees, including the Joint Committee on Testing Practices (JCTP) ; and has presented to numerous groups including, interestingly, the retired scientists from NASA, on topics including student assessment , reform, and urban education. She has been the recipient of more than a dozen national and state awards for reports in areas such as enrollment projections, assessment training materials, strategic planning, and reporting of test results. In the forward written by the State Superintendent of Schools in Connecticut, her co-authored CASCD book with on aligning state assessment programs with district practices in curriculum, instruction, professional development, and assessment, the State Superintendent recommended that the book should be "required reading of all educators across Connecticut".
