Dr. Barker has been an engineering educator throughout his academic life. From early beginnings he taught faculty to teach with technology at the University of Sheffield in 1969 and created computer-based assessments in his digital logic class. In the early 90's he developed a web-based online delivery system before WebCT was published and took part in several national programs for innovative computer science education. He is nationally known for his work in computer science accreditation. As reflected in his numerous publication and awards, Dr. Barker is viewed as an outstanding teacher, a strong proponent of excellent teaching, a dedicated mentor and faculty supporter, and one who believes in the importance of undergraduate education.

Mark A. Boyer, co-chair of the TNE Curriculum Reform Team, is a professor of political science at the University of Connecticut and Co-Director of the GlobalEd Project (www.globaled.uconn.edu). He holds a B.A. from Wittenberg University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Maryland. His research and teaching interests focus on international cooperation, political economy, negotiation and conflict resolution, experimental and simulation methods and foreign policy analysis. He is the 2004 recipient of the UConn Alumni Association’s Award for the Excellence in Teaching at the Graduate Level. He was also the recipient of the 2001 UConn Chancellor’s Information Technology Award and the 2000 APSA Rowman and Littlefield Award for Innovation in the Teaching of Political Science. He is author of International Cooperation and Public Goods (Johns Hopkins, 1993), co-author of Defensive Internationalism (University of Michigan Press, 2004), co-author of Negotiating a Complex World, 2 nd ed (Rowman and Littlefield, 2005), co-author of International Politics on the World Stage, Brief 6 th ed. (McGraw-Hill, 2005), and co-author of American Foreign Policy: Pattern and Process, 6 th ed (Thomson Wadsworth, 2005). He has also published numerous book chapters and articles in such journals as the Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Review of International Political Economy, International Journal, Diplomacy and Statecraft, Instructional Science, and Social Science Computer Review, among others. Dr. Scott W. Brown is a Professor of Educational Psychology at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut. He received his B.A. in psychology from Boston University, his M.S in psychology from Montana State University, and his Ph.D. in psychology from Syracuse University. He has published three books/monographs on issues related to educational psychology, and published over 90 refereed journal articles and book chapters in the field of educational psychology, educational technology, learning and cognition. He has presented over 200 papers at professional conferences. He has been a visiting professor at Utah State University and Victoria University (Wellington, New Zealand). In over 20 years of service at the University of Connecticut he has held positions as the Director of the Bureau of Educational Research and Service, and the department head for Educational Psychology. He has been awarded over $7.0 million in federal, state and private grants.

Fabiana Cardetti is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Connecticut. She received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Louisiana State University in 2002. Her research interests are in geometric control theory, mathematical biology, as well as in mathematics education for K-12 teachers. As a member of the TNE team, Dr. Cardetti will be investigating the development and assessment of instructional strategies to improve the mathematics content knowledge of prospective teachers. She teaches the mathematics content courses for elementary education pre-teachers and has provided assistance to practicing teachers through professional development programs.

Michael Dintenfass is an associate professor in the Department of History at the University of Connecticut. He wrote extensively on British economic and business history for many years and on the philosophy of history. He now concentrates his intellectual energies on the study of the existential and ethical discourses of the West from the ancient world to the present. For over a decade Professor Dintenfass has been developing a skills-intensive approach to teaching history as one of the humanistic disciplines anchored by a tradition of great books.

| Dr. Catherine Fisk Natale is currently the Acting Bureau Chief for the Bureau of Educator Assessment and co-director of the Connecticut SAELP Project. She joined the Department in 1987 and has worked primarily on the development, validation and administration of teacher performance assessments and a state-wide teacher induction initiative (the Beginning Educator Support and Training [BEST] Program). The BEST Program is a nationally recognized teacher induction program which provides mentors to all beginning teachers and assesses teachers for licensure through a portfolio assessment process. In addition, she has coordinated state education policy development with the Connecticut Department of Education as well as served as chief author of numerous Department policy documents. She served as assistant to the Commissioner for the 1996 and 1997 Governor's Education Summits and represented Governor John Rowland's office for the National Education Goals Panel in 1995-96. Prior to joining the Connecticut State Department of Education, she worked as a financial manager at Aetna Life and Casualty. |

Wendy J. Glenn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut . In her role as coordinator of English Education, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the theories and methods of teaching language, literature, and composition. She is the author of Sarah Dessen: From Burritos to Box Office ( Lanham , MD : Scarecrow, 2005) and Presenting Richard Peck ( Lanham , MD : Scarecrow, Forthcoming) and co-editor of Portrait of a Profession: Teachers and Teaching in the 21 st Century ( Westport , CT : Praeger, 2005). She has published articles in The ALAN Review, English Journal, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, SIGNAL , Teacher Education Quarterly, and Peremena/Thinking Classroom . Robin S. Grenier, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of adult learning in the Department of Educational Leadership, in the Adult Learning Program at the University of Connecticut. She is also a Teahcers for a New Era (TNE) Fellow. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and has worked as a high school English teacher and a training and educational consultant for school districts and non-profit organizations. Her research interests include: expertise development, informal and experiential learning, museums as sources of adult learning, and qualitative inquiry. Away from UCONN Robin enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter exploring the wonders of New England.

| Jason G. Irizarry is an Assistant Professor in Residence in the Neag School of Education of Education at the University of Connecticut . A former middle school teacher in New York City , he has most recently worked as a Postdoctoral fellow with the Teachers for a New Era (TNE) Project- a grant funded program designed to enhance teacher preparation, particularly as a means to improving pupil achievement in K-12 settings . Prior to his arrival at the University of Connecticut, he was the Director of Project SPIRIT (Springfield Partnership to Improve the Recruitment of Inspiring Minority Teachers), a college-community collaboration aimed at increasing the number of teachers of color in urban schools. He received his doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2005 and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in multicultural education, philosophy of education, culturally responsive curriculum development, and urban education. His research focuses on urban teacher recruitment, preparation, and retention with an emphasis on increasing the number of teachers of color. An Associate Professor of English, Katharine Capshaw Smith teaches courses in children's literature, young adult literature, and African American literature. Her monograph , Children's Literature of the Harlem Renaissance , won the 2006 award for best scholarly book from the Children ' s Literature Association. She also researches Caribbean children ' s literature and culture . She is at work on a book on children ' s literature and cultural nationalism during the American " Black Arts " movement of the 1960s and 1970s.

Manuela Wagner is Assistant Professor of Foreign Language Education at the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at UCONN. She holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Graz in Austria . During her graduate studies she spent 2 years in the baby lab of Psychophysics in the department of Neurophysiology at the Max-Planck-Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt/Main, Germany , and 3 years in the Department of Human Development and Psychology at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her research interests include pragmatic development in first, second and foreign language acquisition, methods of foreign language teaching, intercultural communication and communicative development in special circumstances. In her role as the director of the Critical Languages Program in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages she finds it interesting to apply current methods of foreign language education in a program of less commonly taught
languages.

Thomas P. Weinland is a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in the Neag School of Education, serving the last six years as head of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. A graduate of Williams College with a major in history, Tim holds a Master’s degree from Harvard and a Doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University. He taught six years and served as social studies department head at Huntington High School (NY) before joining the faculty at the University of Connecticut in 1969. At UConn, Tim has been a leader in the effort to reform teacher education, presiding over changes in the teacher preparation program that have helped lead to national recognition for UConn’s programs in elementary and secondary education. Active in the wider university community, he served as Chairman of the University Senate and President of the UConn chapter of AAUP. Tim’s scholarly activity included publications of or in ten books and thirty-one articles with an emphasis on history and social studies curriculum development. He has been a frequent consultant to school systems, museums and the state of Connecticut, working on social studies curriculum and teaching standards. Tim has had a long association with international education activity including serving as adjunct professor at Chiang Mai University in Thailand, coordinating a Neag School of Education study-abroad program in inner-city London, and presenting papers or workshops at conferences and universities in Venezuela, Thailand, Australia and several European countries. Since retirement Tim has taken on several university-related responsibilities including a UConn partnership with the University of Fort Hare in South Africa and a human rights curriculum project with the Thomas J.
