Peg Curtis is a two time graduate of the University of Connecticut having completed her B.S. in Biology in 1977 and her M.A. in Education in 1998.  Since graduating from the Education program, Peg has taught 5th and 6th grades at Hall Memorial School in Willington, CT where Peg is currently the 6th grade science teacher.  Peg also serves as team leader, union secretary, member of the school improvement committee and professional development committee.  Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked as a system’s analyst for 15 years.  This technology background serves her well in the classroom. Outside of school, Peg is a mother of two college age boys.  She enjoys traveling with her husband, skiing in the winter and bicycling in the summer. During her off time, Peg can usually be found with her nose in a book.

Rebecca D. Eckert, Ph.D., is a clinical professor in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut where she works with college students as they prepare to become teachers. In her former role as the Gifted Resource Specialist for the National Association for Gifted Children, Rebecca co-edited the book Designing Services and Programs for High-Ability Learners with Jeanne Purcell. Her previous work at The National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented included participation with the research team that developed and implemented the Schoolwide Enrichment Reading Model (SEM-R). Her research interests include talented readers, recruitment and preparation of new teachers, arts in the schools, and public policy and gifted education. She is a former middle school teacher with experience in geography, history, and theatre arts.

Robin S. Grenier, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of adult learning in the Department of Educational Leadership, in the Adult Learning Program at the University of Connecticut. She is also a Teahcers for a New Era (TNE) Fellow. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and has worked as a high school English teacher and a training and educational consultant for school districts and non-profit organizations. Her research interests include: expertise development, informal and experiential learning, museums as sources of adult learning, and qualitative inquiry. Away from UCONN Robin enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter exploring the wonders of New England.

Rosalyn Reese is currently enrolled in the Neag School of Education IB/M Program. She will receive her M.A. degree in Secondary Mathematics in May, 2008. Her goal is to become a high school mathematics teacher in an ethnically diverse school setting. Rosalyn is currently a member of a group developed by students in the Neag School of Education called DEED, (Determined Educators Emphasizing Diversity). As a member of this group, she plans to learn more about Multicultural Education and develop skills to help her become a teacher that is culturally responsive to her students. This summer, Rosalyn travelled to South Africa to pursue teaching opportunities. She hopes to return one day to further enhance her knowledge of teaching mathematics in diverse environments. Her other interests include baking, shopping and spending time with friends and family.

Nancy has been a French / Spanish teacher and Department Head of World Languages at E. O. Smith High School where she has spent most of her teaching career.  She received her B.A. from Syracuse University, her M.A.T. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her sixth year in administration from UConn.  Nancy has worked as both a mentor and state assessor for teachers in Connectitcut.  She is passionate about the need for students to learn about languages and cultures. To that end, Nancy has helped to coordinate the annual Francofete for French high school students and is on the board of the CT Connecticut Organization of Language Teachers (CT COLT).   She has lived in a number of different countries all over the world, including France, Australia, Ghana and South Africa.  Now that her four children are grown, Nancy has more time to travel, do volunteer work, read what she wants, and to garden occasionally.

Cathy Smith completed her undergraduate degree at The University of New Hampshire, and graduate work at the University Of Connecticut.  A former Home Economics teacher at Hartford High School, Hartford, CT., she also worked for several years for the Department of Education on developing the Consumer Home Economics Curriculum, as well as evaluating the Home Economic programs throughout the State of Connecticut.  A former UCONN Pre-Education advisor she started overseeing the IB/M Clinical & Field Experiences in 1994 under the direction of Dean Charles Case.  She enjoys collaborating with the professional development schools, PDC coordinators, clinical teachers, students and faculty.  They are all the best!

Sandie Swanson is a two time graduate of the University of Connecticut, earning Masters Degrees in both Education (2000) and Ecology (1997).  She has taught Chemistry at Glastonbury High School and Bunnell High School in Stratford, CT.  Currently, she is working as a University Supervisor for student teachers at the Neag School of Education.  She plans to return to teaching full-time when her two children reach school age.
