Co-Chairs : Robert Colbert - robert.colbert@uconn.edu
The Induction Committee of TNE at UConn is comprised of practicing educators and administrators, faculty from the School of Education , and faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences. The Induction Committee is responsible for providing support for Neag teacher education graduates during their first two years of teaching. Recently, the Induction Committee hosted a Beginning Teachers Conference for first and second year teachers. The informative session topics ranged from "Classroom Management: A New Bag of Tricks" to "Negotiating the Politics of the School","Improvisation and the Scripted Curriculum" and secondary subject sessions. Facilitators were recruited from K-12 schools and from the University. Over 65 first and second year teachers registered and attended the conference. As a second initiative, the Induction Committee recently began work on a virtual floor in the TNE Building on the Tapped-In website (www.tappedin.org). Tapped-In is an online community of education professionals providing support and resources for anyone and everyone involved in the education process. A component of TNE at UConn's 'floor' is a discussion lounge, intended to provide online mentoring support for new teachers. Accomplished teachers with a wealth of knowledge and experience were recruited from the Teacher Leaders Network at the Center for Teaching Quality to provide online mentorship through asynchronous and synchronous chats with beginning teacher graduates. Future projects for the TNE at UConn floor will include professional development pod casts that will be available for download from the site.
